Be good for goodness' sake.

I don't know how many times I've been accused of raising children with no moral compass. The reason? Because we don't subscribe to a religion. Apparently the only way to lead a moral life is to believe in an invisible deity and read a book written by men thousands of years ago.

I found a great article on morality and godless parenting:

The link is screwed up in the post, that is true. The above should work even if you have to copy/paste it.

As a bonus it lacks the sort of vitriol that Richard Dawkins is known for. That man has done more to further the cause of religion than any other living person I can think of. The pope should pay him to open his mouth. It's sort of Haggard in reverse. Make yourself look like an ass so that everyone associated with you looks guilty by association. The linked article doesn't really have any of that. It's maybe a smidge light on details but it's well reasoned and maintains a decent professional tone. This is what atheist people need to have more of. More of this, less of sharp tongued fire breathers like Dawkins.

  3. what would you do if your children wanted to find religion when they grew up? Especially if they went to all different ones? I couldn't imgagine support something I didn't believe in but at the same time I love my children and want to support them in their choices.

Have you thought about this at all?

  4. I have thought about this and the only conclusion I can come to is; yes, I'd support them. It's not my cup of tea, but if it's important to my children, then it's important to me BECAUSE it's important to my children. :)
